Cerebral Palsy is a type of brain injury. It can occur as a result of a lack of oxygen going from the mother to the baby during the course of a pregnancy and during the process of delivery. It can occur for a variety of reasons, one of which, by way of example, is the cord, the umbilical cord, may be wrapped around the neck causing difficulty in transmitting the oxygen to the baby. This can cause fetal distress. A lack of oxygen prolonged over a period of time can cause brain injury and development of Cerebral Palsy.
