NEWARK, NJ (6/10/2020) - Authorities are investigating a car crash that left 3 people dead and 2 people with life-threatening injuries on Tuesday night.
The accident happened around 11:00 p.m. on Route 22 in Newark.
According to the Newark Police Department, a Cadillac CTS carrying five people was driving on Route 22 when it crashed and caught on fire. Three passengers, identified as 19-year-old Taylor Hill, 18-year-old Kamal Johnson, and 20-year-old Nashawn Brooks, were ejected from the vehicle. Hill and Johnson died at the scene of the accident, while Brooks was rushed to University Hospital. Brooks died from his injuries the next morning.
Two unidentified women in the car, including the 19-year-old driver, survived the crash but are hospitalized in critical condition. The occupants of the car were heading home from a beach party at Point Pleasant Beach. Police still don’t know the cause of the accident, but their preliminary investigation found that speed was not a factor in the crash.
