Crash on Long Island Expressway

Melville, NY -- On Monday morning, a man was severely injured in a crash between a box truck and a van.

Suffolk County Police stated that the accident occurred near Exit 50 in Melville at 10:40 am on the Long Island Expressway.

The victim was Jeffrey Browne, age 30. Police say Browne was driving a 2018 black Ford van eastbound and hit the rear of a 2007 Freightliner box truck in a traffic stop. 

Browne is being treated at Stony Brook University Hospital for his injuries after being airlifted from the Expressway. The driver of the truck, Roberto Delgado-Aaraujo, age 48, from Newark was not injured in the crash. 

Police conducted safety checks on both vehicles and released Delgado-Aarugo’s truck. 

The police are currently investigating the crash. If anyone has information on the accident, call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
