Rollover Crash in Bernards Township

BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sept. 17, 2019) —  An East Brunswick woman was injured after her car went off I-78 and caught fire Monday morning Sept. 16th, authorities said.

According to reports, firefighters responded at 8:58 a.m. to a vehicle rollover fire in the median of I-78 near exit 33, and arrived to find a vehicle engulfed in flames.

State Trooper Charles Marchan said that the vehicle, a Toyota RAV4 SUV, was traveling west on I-78 Monday morning when it ran off the road into the center median at mile marker 34.4.

The driver, identified as Renu Rajnarayan, 46, of East Brunswick, was found by police outside her vehicle, conscious and alert, Marchan said. She was transported to Morristown Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, he said.

A number of bystanders reportedly helped Rajnarayan out of her car and provided assistance before police and firefighters arrived.

The incident remains under investigation, he said.
