Failure to Diagnose Bladder Cancer

Being diagnosed with bladder cancer can cause anxiety, pain and depression. The diagnosis will certainly take you time to digest what the doctor has told you and you need to prepare yourself in terms of what treatments are available. But if your bladder cancer has been missed or there was a failure to diagnose bladder cancer, you will have the added worry and stress that some of the treatments available to you before, may now not be an option.

About bladder cancer

Unfortunately Bladder cancer is a relatively common cancer in men and women. Bladder cancer is where a growth of abnormal tissue (tumor), develops in the lining of the bladder.

The symptoms of bladder cancer are:

– Frequent urination
– Blood in urine
– Pain in pelvic area
– The need to get up in the night to urinate

These symptoms can indicate many other infections and illnesses which is why there might be a failure to diagnose Bladder Cancer. However, this is not an excuse and certainly people who present with repeated urinary infection and haematuria and who are aged over 40 should be urgently referred to a Urologist. The Urologist should then arrange for an ultrasound scan and/or cystoscopy to be carried out.
