HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ (2/17/2020) — A motorcyclist died in a crash with a garbage truck on Monday afternoon on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights.
Nuri Kawasaki, 52, was ejected from his motorcycle after a garbage truck hit him heading south on the highway by Franklin Avenue shortly after 3:00 p.m.
Emergency responders conducted CPR at the scene and on the way to Hackensack University Medical Center. Kawasaki was later pronounced dead at the hospital despite rescue efforts.
Authorities temporarily closed the area for cleanup and investigation of the accident.
The driver of the garbage truck, Jonathan Lacher, 50, remained at the scene of the crash and is cooperating with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit. Lacher is currently being charged for careless driving and failure to observe road signals.
