Five Killed, Including One Child, in Horrific Crash on Route 3 in Bergen County

RUTHERFORD, NJ (5/21/2020) - A crash involving a construction vehicle Sunday night left five people dead, including a 4-year-old boy.

The accident happened around 10:45 p.m. on Route 3 just west of the entrance ramp from Route 17.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, five people were heading west on Route 3 in a Nissan Rogue when they slammed into the back of a front-loader vehicle that was also driving west. The operator of the front-loader immediately stopped and called 911.

When first responders arrived, they desperately tried to resuscitate 4-year-old Noah Alexander Dejesus and eventually sent him to the Hackensack University Medical Center. According to Rutherford Police Chief John Russo, the boy died from his injuries early Monday morning.

According to authorities, the driver and passengers of the Rogue, identified as 38-year-old Michelle Toledo, 20-year-old Irvina Gee, 23-year-old Sheckylle Chain, and 16-year-old Ayana Navas, died at the scene of the accident. The Bergen County Prosecutor, Rutherford Police Department, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and New Jersey State Police are still investigating the crash.
