Newark, NJ — A corrections officer was killed early Saturday, August 23rd after a high-speed chase ended in a fatal collision.

Omar Martin, who was an officer from Northern State Prison in Newark, was caught in the middle of a police chase that had started outside of Newark.

An officer from Hillside was pursuing a Nissan carrying three men when the Nissan crashed into Martin’s Mustang, pushing it into a utility pole.

Two of the men in the Nissan were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the third was arrested. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a statement by the executive vice president of the NJSPBA 105, Martin was well-liked by everyone and will be missed.

The investigation into the three men in the Nissan is ongoing.
