Testicular torsion is caused by the twisting of the spermatic cord which can reduce or cut off blood flow to the testes. This condition can occur in men of any age or sometimes even infants. However, it is most common in young men between the ages of 12 and 16. When promptly diagnosed and treated, blood supply can usually be restored and the testicle saved with no permanent damage.
